Minwax Ebony Floor Stain

I began by combining six ounces of minwax® wood finish™ “ebony” with, one tablespoon at a time, minwax® wood finish™ “sedona red.”. Our floor guy wanted us to choose preferably one stain incase anything ever happens to the floors.

Minwax ebony floor stain. Minwax® preparation products are the first step to ensure your wood surfaces show their most beautiful colors and smoothest finishes. It applies easily, absorbs deep into the pores of the wood, and is ideal for staining unfinished wood furniture, cabinets, doors, trim, molding, and hardwood floors. We set on minwax special walnut and weathered oak to give us the look we wanted but that did not work at all!

Minwax dark walnut was the first stain color that i fell in love with when i first started woodworking. After a few tries i was close, but needed a little more “sedona red” to balance the dark tints of “ebony.”. Dura seal is definitely a better brand than minwax, the color is richer and the oak absorbed it more evenly.

As i progressed, i tested each combination on a piece of oak, and took detailed notes. The other color that you see on the right is cherry. It think it looks even better when it’s finished with an oil based polyurethane which really enhances the dark walnut color and the grain of the wood.

Minwax wood finish stain markers are also used to stain and detail small hobby and woodcraft projects. I tested minwax jacobean stain, dark walnut stain, special walnut stain, and a mixture of 1 part dark walnut stain to 1 part special walnut stain. Duraseal stains are by minwax. But i do think this gives a very good idea of the colors. I wanted to get a look at the colors in different lighting, so the picture above was taken last night.

He believes it will be difficult to get the stain to rematch. Left side 80 grit sanded, right side 150 gril sanded. This stain added very little color to any of the boards, (maybe slightly lighter with a tinge of green), but really brought out their natural color and grain.

The dark one is called coffee brown (1 coat) and the lighter one is called spicy brown (2 coats of stain). With minwax® wood stains, there’s a color to suit every style.
